Tim Zundel was hired as interim coach on July 27, 2007.
Zundel, 29, had been an assistant coach for the past four seasons under James Walker.
Zundel helped recruit freshmen classes in 2006 and 2007 that were rated in the top 20 by Soccer Buzz Magazine in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Included in his recruiting classes have been Audra Mathews, a three-time All-Atlantic 10 Conference Second Team pick; two-time A-10 honoree Emily Sedgwick, and 2006 A-10 honorable mention Ginny Bondi. Mathews, along with Faye Rasmussen were on the A-10 Rookie team in 2004 and Shannon Rengers was on the A-10 Rookie team in 2006.
Zundel began his coaching career at Sylvania (Ohio) Northview High School in 2000. During his three-year tenure, he saw his teams win three consecutive Northern Lake League championships while advancing to the district regional finals each year. The three-time NLL Coach of the Year had his Wildcats ranked in the top 10 in the state during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
He also served as an assistant coach for Ohio North, an Olympic Development Program, during the 2002 and 2003 seasons leading the `87 and `86 boy's teams. Additionally, he was a staff coach for Pacesetter Soccer Club from 2000 to 2002.
Zundel graduated with a degree in criminal justice from Tiffin University in 2000. During his time at Tiffin, he was a four year letterwinner for the Dragons. Tiffin was ranked No. 11 nationally his senior season. Zundel played at the club level for the Sereno Golden Eagles in Phoenix, Arizona and for the Mentor Impact in Mentor, Ohio.
The Cleveland, Ohio native is the fourth head coach of the Duquesne women's soccer program, which began competing at the Division I level in 1995.
Zundel married the former Kaley Shellhammer on July 28, 2007. The couple lives in Mt. Lebanon.
